a little fancy 80's revival

On my recent trip back home I helped my mum do some much needed culling of her wardrobe so I could make some donations to the local op-shops (and not just clear out their stock!).  Oh I had heaps of fun, sorting through bits and peices for her.  Gosh shoulder pads were such the rage in the 80's!!  I think its easier to be ruthless with clothes that aren't your own.  Although we've kept a few real vintage peices even Kath and Kim would be impressed with.

I remember giving my mum a hard time with some of her outfit choices when I was young.  She would pick me up from primary school and I'd say "Oh mum, that jacket is all wrong on you, what are you thinking?" Need less to say, I mostly accompainied her shopping to as to be the honest voice of reason!

But one of my finds in my own mum's wardrobe was this gorgeous leather 80's belt.  The gold leaf clasp is just divine and something you'd even see in the stores now.

It's tricky though, wearing a vintage peice .  I think, the key is to wear it with clothes that compliment but that are of todays era.  Too much vintage and well, you tend to look vintage too.

Worn today with some cozy denim jeggings, on oversized grey jumper and little pixie boots.

Joining in with the gorgeous Kymmie who I get the chance to catch up with in real life this week! yay!

Wearing;
Jeggings - Sussan
Jumper - Sportsgirl
Belt - mum's vintage
boots - Payless shoes
Earrings - Diva

the little price of happiness...

It's amazing what a small bit of loose change can do to a girls internal happiness radar!
A few weeks before Christmas I was frantically trying to get everything sorted (gifts that is) AND prepare for my last market of the year.....

It was a good market - although we had been moved into another room and this room, was, well, a bit smaller, so all us stall holders with our tables, and racks, props and bags were squished together like sardines.

My lovely little stall holder next to me was setting up her delightful little vintage jewellery stall......amongst her gems I eyed off this sweet little tapestry purse...

I waited, and when I had a  few sales - I asked if I could buy it!
"sure $3 thanks!"
"What!" - Had I known I would have snapped it up straight away

This little gem now holds my coins and I love walking to the local shops, to spend a few dollars on some milk or treats for the kids.

Ever snap up a little gem that makes you smile?? I've linked this up with Sophie as she's having a giveaway!  Stop past and take a look!

wardrobe wednesday...

I'm noticing a change...

Can you?

Spring is nearly here and to be honest I can't wait.  If I had of started these Wardrobe posts at the start of winter my demeanor would have been somewhat different, seeing as I have a love affair with winter coats, boots over jeans and scarves in every colour and thickness.

But I'm over it!  I can't wait for fresh mornings where I can throw open the doors and windows, and sun that penetrates your face and cardigans you can slip off by lunch to catch some vitamin D on my bare arms....

Oh hurry up Spring...I miss you!

So in an attempt to convince myself Spring is here...a splash of colour, some little ballet flats and vintage scarf!

Jeans - Sass and Bide
White singlet - Cotton On
Orange top - Saba
Jacket - Armani Jeans
Shoes - gift from my mum and Nonna on their recent trip to Italy!
Scarf - op shop

flea market finds.....

One's mans trash is another man's treasure (or in this case, a woman's treasure!) and there is nothing like hunting around a junk shop, op shop or garage sale and spot a treasure in the distance, only to find out that the shop keeper or owner don't understand it's true beauty and value and have it listed at such a price that you just have to take it home...

but sometimes those places are filled with nothing that captures your eye and you leave empty handed AGAIN!!

Alas, this is when a girl can turn to Ebay, and hunt for random objects at her desire....
Two of my favourite vintage finds from the land of ebay are this cute little wooden plaque snapped up for $4

And this vintage barometer which was a little bit more (around $40 i think)

Perfect finds to adorn my wall next to this little plate of the dancing couple and clock!

What did you find this week, and where??  Well head to Sophie's to see more....

handmade christmas challenge

I feel productive if I can sew, make or design something on a regular basis (hopefully a little bit each day - but not always).  This week has been busy, but I have been able to sneak in a bit of crochet, and some sewing and have been making some Key Fobs that I sell in My Store that I think will be great for small Christmas presents for Kinder teachers and friends....

I have also been having fun with my ever growing pile of scraps and vintage fabrics....

I wanted to make some tote bags as more and more shops these days are not providing plastic bags (ie, spotlight!!), and it does feel good not to carry those ghastly green bags around all the time!!

I thought of having a cute little saying on it...

Then I remembered my little crochet flowers I bought from OneCrafteeMumma and thought they would be a great addition.  The bags are not finished yet, but I really don't think I can wait to give them out at Christmas, so I think two special friends will be benefiting from my little experiment...

To join this Handmade Christmas Challenge...head over to knicky knacks!
