In my wardrobe : geometrics

It's been a while since I did a fashion post.  Lately, if I do one, it's because I've made something, and feel thats a good enough excuse to show it off.  Honestly, I love poking about blogs and checking out what you folks are wearing, and how your wearing it.  I relished the days when I'd link up with fashion loving bloggers to share our wardrobe delights and I love poking about over this way,  here* and there....it's like real life fashion catalogues.  So I put the feelers out there again on Instagram and a few lovelies gave me the confidence to plunge into the fashion post realm again.   So I dusted off the tripod and had some fun in my favourite spot beside the house.

Tell me, do you like an odd fashion post?

floral

A chance encounter with some divine stretch sateen in my favourite hue on sale and this little floral jacket was imagined, cut and sewn in just a few hours.  I'd been coveting a floral summer jacket for a little while now, but jackets somewhat daunt me a little what with their tricky collars and lining.  But this floral jacket was a cinch.  Using a pattern I already had for heavy knit bolero style jacket, I modified it a bit to suit, made my own facings so as to avoid adding lining which I fears would make it heavier and with no collar, there was not a worry in the world.  A cute little addition to my wardrobe that will add the colour punch I desired.

Joining this world of creativity.

a skirt and the neighbours

I made a skirt last night. Long time coming, it feels like I haven't made myself a piece of clothing in ages.  Not really what I had hoped for this year.  I really wanted to make more...but as usual life, and other such stuff gets in the way.  But this maxi skirt....pattern totally made up as I went was rather a quick project that probably only took 30 minutes. I love the tribal print...I knew straight away it would make a great maxi skirt....I shall be planning more and if it works a second time (let me first rule out a fluke...then I could consider a tutorial).

As I set up the tripod to snap a few shots of said made skirt, I did take a moment to consider my location.  Usually I just plop myself near the side fence of our backyard but today I was a little self-consious.  You see I have new neighbours.  Yes, I could just imagine the conversation over dinner at their house....."hmmm you know our  neighbour takes pictures of herself" "Oh really?"  "yes, I think it's a sign of madness" "your probably right, perhaps we should avoid her at all cost" So I snuck down the other side of my house...the icky side with the hot water system, the old door and mirror and the air conditioning unit.  But at least my neighbours didn't see!

my creative space {wrapped up}

In a vain attempt to add some Spring in my world, some colour in my life and de-winter myself early...I decided to throw all other projects to the side and whip up some colourful scarves.

A quick impromptu trip had me loaded up with some bright fabric and on a cold wintery raining weekend I hummed quietly whilst imagining that the sun was shining, the birds chirping and the breeze warm on my arms.  That was not the case, but I was determined to rid myself of all feelings Winter!

The first...a floral number!  A metre of fabric cut in half and then sewn to make it double the length.....frayed edges that took a tedious time but fine when copious amounts of tea were at hand and could even be achieved whilst playing Monopoly with the kids.

The second a funky bright scarf...the roll came in a 147cm length so I only bought half a metre but even that was too much.....I took a 25cm piece, sewing right sides at the longest length to make tube.  Turn right side out ironing the seam in the middle.  It was still too short for my liking so a panel of yellow added to each end gives me the flexibility of lopping it around my neck, if I choose to do so!

So two new scarves which the total cost came in at a mammoth $10.50
Yes, i know big spender that I am!

Well, feast your eyes on more creativity at Kidspot!

the challenge is over...

It's finally over!  I did it.  I wore a dress a day for the whole of February.
Ok - I took one day off as I was too sick to get out of the trackies, so technically there are only 28 dresses up there - but I am still basking in my success at this challenge.  And it was a challenge as Melbourne and surrounding areas that I visited during this month threw at me some wayward weather.  From stinking hot to stormy winds, I was determined not to let a little heat or for that matter some rather icy winds get in the way.

I'm pleased that this also help me get reacquainted with my wardrobe full of dresses.  For the purpose of this challenge I moved them all out of my room and into a lovely big antique wardrobe in our spare room.  I think they will stay there - it has been a delight to give them there own little space and a change of scenery helped me see them in a different light.

I know that I wont be sticking to my few favourites, but venturing out more often and enjoying them all a little more that I once did.  Thanks to those that followed my progress on Instagram and those friends in real life who kept me honest!

A dress a day {7-12}

Dress 7

I'm still going - I'm not even half way really!  It has really astounded me just doing this challenge just how many dresses I have.  My friend told her mother-in-law about my challenge, and during school pick up the other day,  I was helping said MIL find the right class room when she said "so, I take it this is dress 9?"  So no excuses.  It is giving me a good distraction whilst I also face the challenge of being a school mum for the first time.... and a Kinder mum for the second time.  It has been a week of nerves....for all of us!

And yes, I missed dress 8 (I took a sickie as I had an ear infection) and thought trackies were a much better option!

Here's a run down on my week that was in dresses.....

Monday, February 6

a dress a day....1 - 6

Day one

Ok...so for the last six days I've been keeping up with my challenge of wearing one (of my 29) dresses a day for the month of February.  So, given this has been the first week, it's been pretty easy.  No dress can be repeated, but then again I've had the majority to pick from....so I am yet to feel challenged.

Although I must say some forward planning is essential.  It has made me look at the weather and also think about what I'll be doing each day.

Here is a little re-cap of how I've "dressed"  for the past six days....

Day Two

Day Three

Day Four

Day Five

Day Six

I've only managed iPhone photos which I try and do on instagram....so apologies for the crappy pictures.  But rest assured I've told enough people IRL to keep this challenge honest.   Dresses 1 and 5 are ones I hardly wear, but really should wear more often, and I love wearing the maxi (dress 2 which is was made by me) that I should make more (yes...because I really need more dresses!)

The next week will see me challenged with picking dresses that suit working, school and kinder days and well as the weekend helping family move house!  Eek

29 Dresses

No this is not a post advertising the squeal to the romantic comedy that was 27 Dresses.

This is infact a post about the number of dresses I have in my possession.

It's fair to say, I have a lot.  But it's an accumaltive thing, and some are very much loved favourites that have served me many many summers.  And I like dresses. I have hardly any jeans or pants and when I shop I know I gravitate first to the dresses, then perhaps skirts.

But when I did a bit of a re-arrange and clean up of my wardrobe I thought I better count just how many dresses I actually have.

29.

Do they all get worn?  No is the simple answer.  I have my favourites....and my not so favourites.

Time to do something about this.  So considering we have one month left of Summer and there are 29 days of February, starting Wednesday and for all of February I am going to wear all my dresses.  No dress shall be repeated and if it is not dress weather, then I will have to be creative.  It'll help me decide which dresses shall stay, which will go and which of them need a little alteration.  I'll take pictures,  mostly on instragram though as I'll struggle to get the tripod out each day.....but....

A dress a day.

Can I do it?

Fancy Pants in full colour

I'm back into the Fancy Pants regime....it's been a while and for a moment there I'd forgotten what it was all about - I mean look at that sombre face up there!!!

But I'm anything but sombre - this dress for instance is just made to make you feel happy.  And not just because of it's brightness and all.  No, not just that.

And not just because it's super comfy... which it is mind you...stretch t-shirt like top, a little elastic in the waist and gorgeous cotton/sateen skirt with a split at the back for easy strolling.

And it's not because of the price I paid for it either - which I might add was something ridiculous...I mean this little beauty set me back under $20!  Yes, that's right!

So the reason then???  Well, besides all of those I already mentioned, I'm going to love wearing this new maxi dress because I made it myself.  I eyed off a similar style for some ludicrous price and realised that simply is was a t-shirt top attached to some panels of fabric for the skirt....so a quick trip to Spotlight and a rummage for a t-shirt that I chopped under the bust and hey-presto!
A Maxi Dress! I'm sticking to my vow of not buying (or making) anything black/grey or even beige.  This has been in an attempt to add some fun and colour into my wardrobe.
I'm loving the big bold colours of this dress, the print and mixing it up with even more colours with added accessories.  Nothing screams summer more than bright colours!

Do you have a favourite summer colour??

budget or blowout?

b or b

You know I love a bit of fashion talk and a little while ago I gave you the challenge to pick the designer from the down right bargin outfits.  Flash your mind back here.  Which set did you pick as the splurge outfit?

Well, it was the set on the left that was the complete blowout .

b or b

Moving on.  New set now.  One set has items under $50, the other over $1000!

Which is the budget and which is the blowout?

Top or bottom?

I made this set on Polyvore so long ago, that even I forgot which was which!!!

fancy pants {street style}

Ok, so I'm not going to lie, this Fancy Pants outfit is from the archives, as currently the only fashion statement I'm making involves surrounding myself around a box of Kleenex, chamomile tea and cozy little slippers with love hearts on them.  They go perfectly well with the watery eyes, headache and red running nose!

So, instead of missing out on linking up with one of my fav & fashionable bloggers, I thought I would pull this one out of the archives, because, well, it was a memorable night.

After a lovely dinner out with some smashing friends (sans kids - for all of us!), we talked well into the night and just prior to all heading off home (and a little weary) there was an impromptu fashion shoot in the middle of the street!  Yes, my friends were aware of my Fancy Pants posts...and couldn't resist!

I can't say that it was the most comfortable of experiences....you know usually my Fancy Pants shoots are all done in the privacy of my own home...with no one to giggle at me but the kids!

But this night, we were all giggling!!!

wearing;
White Coat - ASOS
red dress - Dotti
Black tights - Coles

Cuff - birthday pressie
lipstick - Revlon - Ravish me Red

I do fancy the end of winter....

I know....I got off so lightly this year in the "suffering the Melbourne winter"  by absconding to Italy for a whole month.....we've all come back a darker shade (my daughter mostly!!)

And it's been nice getting back into the swing of things.  Things like the Kinder drop off/pick up, the grocery shopping, chatting with friends, going out with some girlfriends, baking, cooking, blogging and...
snapping some Fancy Pants shots.

But Kymmie - here I am.  I'm glad to be back, sharing our fashions loves.  And if you came past yesterday you'd have read that I'm loving getting a little extra wear out of my winter boots.

So here they are....I love these boots, they just pull straight on and for something a little different I pulled on some over the knee socks that have a cute little velvet bow so that they could peek out over the top of my boots.....

Do have a favourite winter item that just helps you smile during the freeze??

Wearing:
jeans - Gripp
Boots - Tony Bianco
Long black singlet - Sussan
Shirt - Tally Ho
Cardi - Portmans
