failure and success

In life there are bound to be failures and success.  Time when you nail a project and moments when you don't.  If there were a time to coin that phrase to a particular event in my week it would be to my crafting adventures.  This week has seen a monumental fail, but also a delightful success.

A project started on whim, false confidence hoping it would see me through...the actual making was not so hard, rather the deciphering of the pattern...  resulting in a garment two sizes too small and no way of rectifying it.  Surprisingly I wasn't disappointed, or even upset with myself.  If anything, I had accomplished what I set out to achieve.  I crocheted a garment.  A wearable garment....just in the wrong size.  I'm happy though it has found a new home (thanks to Instagram)

To balance it out my daughter and I set about creating a wonderful Winter Pea Coat for her.  That, was a success....more photos to come when I can coax her into modelling it for me!

How do you handle crafting failures?

Happy creative day lovelies xx

up up and away........

Little boys love to dream they can fly.....like superman!  And I'm sure they'd all be good superhero's and protect their toys from villains and baddies.

Well, I'm lucky enough to know a little Super-hero that just celebrated his 2nd Birthday and with a little discussion with his gorgeous mumma prior, we came up with a little idea that I could make for him.

So with a little help from my friend Tar-get, a bit more help from other friend Spotlight and of course lets not forget my newest and dearest partner in crime, Ms Janome, we set off to work on this super inspired but not too outlandish that mumma will cringe if he wants to wear it day-in-day out!

Once I made one for him, i couldn't help but think he needed to have a superhero mate, a side-kick, so i quickly whipped up another for his big brother!

Quite a simple design really.  I  chose to attach the cape to the t-shirt with vintage buttons rather than permanently sew it on.  These super-heros need breaks too you know!

Have fun flying around the neighbourhood boys!
Happy Birthday Billy
Love your mates down the road

my creative space.....{cosy lovin'}

Well, autumn is most certainly here - although you wouldn't know it in Melbourne these past days - how stunning is this sunshine!!!

A few weeks back the chilly evenings and fresh winds had me thinking it was time to pull out the winter pj's for the kids.  Upon searching, it yielded little options for my youngest since her summer growth spurt!

Never fear!  with a quick measure, and use of an old pair (plus some), a bit of gorgeous floral stretch jersey, some sewing and ironing...

A new little pair of pj's were done.  I had a long sleeve top perfect for sleepwear and adorned it with a heart.

Now my precious little bundle can sleep cosily in her lovingly handmade pj's.....

No time for a nanna nap, you must visit lovely creative places!

A custom custom made to order....

...I love it when people come up with good, no great ideas.  And I love it more when I can be apart of a great idea!  A while back, my good friend Simone whose daughter goes to the same Kinder as my son purchased a skirt that I had listed on Made It.  She asked if I could make a matching t-shirt,  and some matching hair accessories, oh, and could I stitch or somehow incorporate the girls initial on the t-shirt - yes, that would be great!

I thought this was a fabulous idea - and set to making up the outfit.  It turned out really sweet and wonderful, that Simone has ordered four more sets for upcoming Christmas gifts for four sweet little girls in her life (one being her own daughter).

So I set to work making some skirts....

Then some tops (all with their initial in coordinating fabric)

And then some hair accessories....

Oh what a good idea it was.  Imagine these four little girls wearing their own little 'custom custom made to order' outfit!!!  Adorable!

Getting into the Christmas Spirit here....

I purchased some plain t-shirts a while ago, and decided now would be a great time to create something unique and festive.

My daughter loves her "new one" as she calls it and these ones have been posted to my two nieces in Country Victoria, so they can enjoy wearing them in the lead up to Christmas!

Not many sleeps to go now!!!  Hope you are getting into the spirit!!!

my creative space...

It's my nieces 5th birthday today!  It feels like such a cliche to say that it feels like yesterday that she was born - but really I cannot believe how the years have flown by. We are catching up on the weekend to celebrate...

Kind of last minute after lots of market preparation, I decided to make her a little outfit...

Next year my little niece will join the club of 'preppies' and will adorn a school uniform five days a week, so when it's time for play, a fun little floaty skirt adorned with vintage buttons and a matching t-shirt is just the ticket!

And these hair clips I bought from my talented friend (whom does not yet sell her items online) match perfectly (pure coincidence!)

Happy Birthday my sweet niece!  Hip hip hooray to you!

A bit of shoooshing up some plain t-shirts for my daughter for summer.

This pink had a hideous print on the front, so I decided to cover it up with some gorgeous fabric!  I'll try and make some matching skirts or shorts with the fabric (without it looking to matchy matchy).

And I couldn't resist using my new labels which arrived in the post last week!  I'm so happy with them - They are from World wide labels and you can find their Etsy store here

for the boys part II.....

I'm right into the boy zone at the moment!  I had so much fun making little scarves, that when I remembered I had bought some gorgeous duck cloth cotton in a dark mushroom colour, I knew I could create them into great pants for the little men in our lives.

I added little contrast detail to all of them in different ways, like cuffs and pockets.  They are simple wide leg, elastic waisted and will even make great 3/4 shorts....

All of these goodies, plus more will be for sale at the Sugar and Spice Children's Market!   and possibly the North Melbourne Market!
Hope to see you there - please come and say hi...

my creative space...

I tend to over-think things too much sometimes, and this is one occasion!  I am preparing my stock and making new items to take with me to the Sugar and Spice Market which will be held at Woodend on the 20th June.  I am very excited which has transpired into motivation but also over analysis!  You see, usually I am the market goer, not the stall holder, so now that I am the stall holder, I must not forget to think like the market goer....have I lost you yet??  My philosphy is pretty simple (i think).  My aim is offer great products at reasonable prices, but also something a little different, made with love and care and also to cater to everyone's budget.  Not all people plan to go to craft markets and some may have $20 in their pocket, other's $2. And lets face it....everyone loves to walk away with a little purchase (don't they??).

So as I battle with pricing, packaging and products, I sometimes just ignore it all and take pictures.

This is one of many little skirts that will come with me to the market and hopefully find a new little waist to call their owner!
