Read, reading, next {investment effect}

What do you do when you start reading a book and it's a bit of a flop? Or not as good as you hoped...?  How much time do you invest before deciding if you'll finish it or toss it for something else?  I don't often not finish a book I start.  But then at the same time, what's the point when for me, reading is enjoyment and a bit of selfish me time that quite literally I don't have to waste...so a dull book, no thanks!

I did leave a book unread last week.  I may go back to it - I may not. I hadn't invested that much into it, and I wasn't getting any exciting vibes and it didn't help that two independent sources gave me rather realistic views that it didn't get any more exciting or gripping or that thrill that makes you want to pick it up and read it.  May be it didn't help that I started reading this, after claiming my previous book as my read of the year....it had big boots to fill!  So it's back on the shelf... but here are some books I have read, am currently reading and are on my list....

Read ....

Overseas by Beatriz Williams.  Oh my!  A lovely, sweet, beautifully written storey of romance, history and with a twist of time travel thrown in for good measure it was a delight to read and at time I found myself still reading at 2am (sign of good book yes?)...so this book at the moment has been my read of the year.

Reading....

Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald.  A great classic.  I cannot recall how many times I've started this book but not finished it. Not because I ddin't like it, but once I think I lost it...then I forgot whilst on away for the weekend and another book took it's place each time.  Finally I'm determined to finish it.  The movie has been made!  Leo as the Great Gastby himself...so I'm intrigued to see this novel transition to the big screeen and I'm loving all the snippets we are getting of the costumes that made that era so enviable!  Can't wait..

Next....

Last letter from my lover..Jojo Moyes.  I've read a book already by this author and that's one of the reasons why this is on my list.  Set back in the 1960's two lovers write letters to one another...and then they are found in 2008 by a journalist and she embarks on a mission to find out whether or not they lived happily ever after.

What's on your list and do you suffer from the Investment effect?  How much do you invest in a book before you decide to go on or leave it for another?

what's your favourite line....

A little while back I made a Movie Quote Print for a friend of ours.  It became quite a talking point and some others were made at friends' request.

Now they are available in my shop.

I did a Romantic Movie one for us girls and one full of quotes from all those macho boys movies!  I'll admit I have favourites on both....I'm partial to a good action flick every now again and it was almost impossible not to catch enough of The Godfather Epic for some of it to stick....but never fear girls....My hubby has reciprocated through The Notebook, Pretty Woman and The Princess Bride in our years together!  All classics in my eyes....and have some of the most memorable lines.

But I'd love to know...

What's your ultimate favourite line from any movie??  The one that makes you weak at the knees or keeling over in laughter...reaching for the kleenex or doing your best impersonation??

Do share?

What's your favourite love story?  Be it fictional or real?

I'm grateful for....{great book and nights out}

Well,  hello lovely bloggy friends.  Yes, been a little quiet here this week with a two little sickies mid-week but happy to say all is fine and well as we approach the weekend.

Joining in with the ever so adorable Maxabella Loves on this day to be grateful!

Today, I'm grateful for...

1.  Good books - Whilst the kiddies were sick, and resting up on the couch this week I took the opportunity to get some day time reading done.  With kids heads on my lap or curled up beside me offering comfort when they needed, I took time out and read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.  Wow - amazing book.

2. Night out - so in order to recharge I set off with my gorgeous friend from down the road and we hit the busy streets of Carlton to enjoy the movie - and it totally lived up to my expectations.

3. A treat -  and of course we enjoyed some delectable goodies at Brunetti's afterwards.  Lovely way to end the week.

I hope your weekend is wonderful and Happy Grateful Day!  Link up here and join in the fun.

friday loves

A few loves that I'm having at the moment....

1. I love eggs - scrambles, poached, florentine, benedict, hard-boiled, or used when baking.  This is a surprise actually given my both my parents hate them with a passion!  My kids love eggs too!  My son loves to crack them and break them and my daughter will hunt out the small saucepan and request a soft boiled egg! My husbands colleague brings in fresh eggs to work every few days from his chooks and there is nothing like fresh farm eggs.

2. I love books - and always have one (or two) on the go and need to read a little bit each night before turning in!  Tomorrow When the War Began is now being made into a movie, but did you know it was part of a series of books written by John Marsden?  The first book was published when I started high school and then each of the other 6 books were released every year after that, giving me one book every year of my high school days.  I remember borrowing the first book from the library by chance as a year 7 student, and reading it in two days over the weekend it was so good!  These books were like the Harry Potter for my era!  I want to see the movie, but already i know that the books will be better!

3. I love altruism - when people help people for no return, praise or acknowledgement.  Last week I was the recipient of such altruism when a blogger by the name of Maxabella Loves offered to fix my blog header!  Maxabella was also responsible for sharing a great kids dress tutorial find that I desperately needed!  If you haven't visited her blog, please do!  It's full of inspiration, real life anecdotes and posts to make you think!

4. I love this cute little spring outfit - especially the headband!
