slow and steady

It was a week of anticipation as our first born celebrated his seventh birthday*.  The week started slow, mulling about the house the usual routine, warding off the dreaded winter lurgies.     The Queens Birthday long weekend combined with a  birthday is most often a long weekend affair.  No doubt we packed our few possessions required and headed for our sanctuary.  We lit a fire, I slapped together a cake and with some nibbles and a splattering of family, it was a celebration in style.

1. Two little friends cuddled up on a rainy day
2. Fairy dress her outfit of choice most days
3. Yes, I found a face on my orange
4. keeping warm around the fire.
5. I'll steal your beanie then ask for a piggy back uncle konny
6. Enjoying the view from his office window
7. Gumboots and shadows
8. Roof and blue sky

Linking up terribly late with the lovely Em @ The shack

Does the long weekend through you out?  or is it just me?

taking a leap....

Over the last few months this little family of mine have been discussing our soon to be change of life a lot.  Almost daily, certainly littered with many many questions, what if's and I wonders.  Husband and I are eagerly planning each stage, and also like excited children can't help our minds wandering off in the clouds with the endless possibilities that await us.

About a month ago, an urge to join our land sooner than planned really took hold.  Perhaps it was the building progress or just the inability to get there as often as we liked that frustrated us.  We're not sure, but it was uncanny that both of us were feeling the same way.  The same want to move sooner.  We spoke of obstacles in our way, of what changing plans would mean, of when the house was scheduled to be completed.  We discussed it all, but it didn't dissipate our desire.  Emotions are a powerful force.

The truth is our hearts had already packed their bags and moved to this town.

And so will we.  We're taking a leap, and moving our family sooner.  Come September we will re-locate our family with the kids joining the local community school and kinder for the end of year term before Summer holidays.  We'll spend a few months living in our quaint but small holiday flat above the fish and chip shop in the main street.  We'll enjoy daily visits to our land watching our home being built.  The vegetable garden will be tended to each day, and be ready come Spring.

If I have brief moments of doubt, I simply remember we are following our hearts and it's leading us home.

Where does your heart reside?  Is it where you live or somewhere else?

summer sewing

There is something whimsy and dreamy in sewing up delights in the midst of Summer.  Today the temperature is set to reach the forty degree mark.  The curtains have been drawn, the fans on high rotation and "inside" games and crafts are scheduled.  A salad announced as the answer to "what are we having for lunch/dinner" questions.  So whilst I had a few moments of energy before the heat leads us to the local watering hole, I took some time to organise my stock for an upcoming summer night market this weekend in the peaceful location of the local golf course.  A few newbies to add tags too....  A collection of summer scarves adorned with pom pom trim and a few girls summer skirts completed as well.  Once tagged and pressed they will be diligently packed away in vintage suitcases.

How are your summer crafts going?

moving country {a new blog}

If you haven't already figured it out (those on IG will certainly know)....this family of mine are moving country.  This year will be our final year in Melbourne and by the end of 2013 we will be farewelling life in suburbia for our new life on acreage a few kilometres from a lovely quaint historical country town.  To say we are excited is an understatement.  Not only are we excited about the prospect of a different pace of life, but we are moving back closer to family and a lifestyle we want for us and our children.

To document the journey I started a new blog last year, aptly titled 13 acres.  It was so I wasn't bombarding this blog with all things building and moving.... I kinda wanted a little separate journal like  memento and it will be full of our dreams as we plan our life living off the land and building our forever home.  It also made me reflect on this blog here.  I've decided that this will also be a final year of blogging from MiraNarnie.  She has been a delightful little blog and I love this space, but I feel a transition from this blog my 13 acres blog will be wonderful transition when our move takes place.

So come say hi over at my new space.

Monday snippets

 Last week Victoria enjoyed a public holiday for a horse race that stops a Nation.  Well, we decided to take a whole week off so we packed the kids up to spend some time in the country.  Time off school, time off work and no routine (as such) was meet with very agreeably.

We lazed about, went for many walks.
Drank water from their favourite fountains and
Enjoyed roof tops and rising early with nowhere to go
Watched from a window with a view
Even the washing was fun
I found myself a nice cozy chair for day time reading
A festival was on...of a Celtic nature so they closed the streets and put on a show
We enjoyed the drum beats and bag-pipes
and giggled at the men in skirts.

Do you like to make a public holiday last a bit longer than it should?

I'm grateful for {girls}

I have a confession.  I've never been on a 'girls weekend'.  nope. never.

And it doesn't bother me.  I don't feel like I've missed out, it's just never held that much interest to me, even though I can see the appeal.

But this week saw me and my girlfriend pack the car and our respective daughters and headed off to a small country town for a sort of girls weekend (mid week and with children!).

There was giggling and dancing, laughing and playing. We had good old fashion fun, spent next to nothing and the girls were just delighted playing in knee high fields of grass.

This week I'm grateful for...

1. Girls - spending a few days with a houseful of girls is just awesome.  I love being a girl.  Gee we know how to have fun.

2. Toblerone - when the girls were off to the land of nod each night, we popped on Pride and Prejudice and got stuck into the toblerone.  Oh life is good.

3. Giggling - the sound of two little girls giggling will always be one of my favourite sounds.

Happy grateful day.

I'm grateful for {days together}

Gee I haven't blogged since last grateful day.

The holidays have captivated most of my time, and quite honestly....It's been lovely.  I've put my gear in neutral...I'm idling along and we all got away from the city for a few days as a family to breathe in some country winter air and it was....delightful.

So this week I'm grateful for....

Days together... Family days spent together, not doing much or doing heaps. Going out for dinner, trying new cuisines,  staying up past "bed time" and the general chit chat that somehow comes with owning a six and nearly four year old.  The endless games, requests for entertainment (our first visit to the movies was a success!) and of course being with the three people I love the most.  We've spent time doing the same things and time just doing our own thing in the company of each other.

Tell me what you love doing with your family?

And remember to join in here at Kidspot with Bron from Maxabella Loves

snap it {alphabet}

Ohh a little tricky this week.  I had to look in the archives.

A while back we I did some renovations to a cute little country apartment.  I loved this process, so took many pictures along the way.  We had a lovely old building circa 1880 to work with but was in need of a lot of TLC.    This was mid-renovation....

The ladder a classic capital A!
