my creative space... {everything in its place}

I would love to say that I'm a naturally organised person.  Mostly I am, but sometimes things can get the better of me and at any moment my need to be organised and tidy can escape me, and I'm left with one big pile of mess with little understanding where things are.  This occurs frequently in my craft space.

So it's no surprise that I loved this project as soon as i read it in the book by Pip Lincolne titled 'Meet Me at Mikes'.  It's a fabric roll - a great place to store all your goodies.  Since owning this book, i've made quite a few of these (one for home, one for my bag that comes to craft markets with me etc) and now it was time to make another...

I chose some gorgeous linen/hemp and cotton blended fabric, a touch of denim for strength and durability and a lovely tassel of leather strapping with beads to wrap it all up ready to pop away or in a bag.

No matter what you want to store in it, whether it be crochet related, a few needles and thread, small scissors, pen and a notebook - This fabric roll will have you organised the likes of any IKEA catalogue looks!

my creative space...

It's not often that I wear a pair of dangly earrings, but when I do it seems to an issue to find my little collection scattered about my dressing table or thrown in drawers and it's resulted in most of them being housed in a little zip up pouch.  Consequently I have to tip the contents out in order to find a pair or entangle them from one another....

well not anymore...

the thought of purchasing any kind of storage for some costume jewellery was not going to happen...

so I rummaged through my ever growing stash of craft supplies....

a bit of sewing, cutting, glueing, hammering and sorting....

and voila!

Now all my earrings are on display, easy to find and if I can't wear them as often as i like as least I can look at them!

**  If you want to give this project a go but don't have a sewing machine use a larger doily and place it between the embroidery hoop or use heavy weight tulle cut to size!

at my house.....

Gee....you would think I am planning for 100 guests they way I am running around like a chook with no head.  But no, I am preparing and planning for a small party for my son's 4th birthday in a couple of days....so whilst he was at Kinder this morning, I was able to get some things ticked off my list with a little help from his little sister....

Lolly-free party bags - Done! (thanks lou!)

Start making traffic light jelly - Green (go) Done (will do amber and red tonight and tomorrow).

Got a few more things to do - the major one being that I have actually decided to make a GIVE WAY sign!  So, I have the red felt, the letters and will have to begin piecing it all together tonight!  But on the weekend we made some wall art with the traffic light theme continuing.  It was easy peasy and if you don't know how to sew this is a perfect beginner project!

Just grab some fabric, some embroidery hoops and cut to fit (making sure you iron the fabric first, then pull taut fit the hoop and viola!  You have your own wall art! Our selection was to mimic the classic traffic light colours, so bold red, polka dot yellow and I splurged and used this gorgeous Michael Miller Traffic quilting fabric for the green... This is yet to be hung up, but I will post a picture when it is....

Have fun at your house and stop by Lou's to check out what everyone else is up to!

rainbow tidy

The other night I got the urge to organise my scrap bags.  They were getting a bit out of control and really all i did was to shove them into a plastic bag and the more fabric I buy, the more scraps I have.  I tend to keep most of my scraps (as you never know when you are going to need that tiny bit of fabric) but I knew I needed a better system.

Enter basket and bits of cardboard cut to form a grid and some sorting of colour and voila - a rainbow scrap basket!

Now it's easier to see what I've got and if I need an orange or blue to red bit of fabric it's at the tip of my finger - oh and I just love looking at it!

Got a fabric organisation tip??  If so i would love to hear it...
